First You Should Understand 2 part coatings have a catalyst component that causes the coating to chemically harden vs. air drying. This is called cross linking coatings.

You may get a bathtub refinishing contractor who’ll use a 2 part Epoxy or a DIY kit from the home center. Which is just 2 part epoxy. Epoxy’s offer some adhesion, poor gloss, soft and easily damaged. Usually require 48 hours to cure. Poor choice in quality and not convenient in downtime. Epoxies are cheap and easier to apply for an inexperienced bathtub refinishing contractor. Most often used by cheap commercial apartment refinishers.

Urethane coatings are very common in the bathtub reglazing industry. Acrylic Urethane’s are usually car paint – Polyurethanes are more often used in industrial equipment coatings.

Lastly… is Polyester coatings most often used in extreme conditions that require the most demanding conditions. Expensive and more challenging to apply and require a highly skilled professional tub refinisher verses a tub painter.
