How Much Does It Cost To Install A Bathtub Liner? See Our Tub Liner Installation Pricing Below.
Bathtub liner material selection is critical, PVC Vinyl the least costly and the least attractive or durable. 100% Acrylic, looks great but due to being brittle is not my first choice either. 85% ABS capped 15% Acrylic, solves durability problems and looks great. (ABS plastic is what football helmets are made from.) PVC Vinyl bathtub liners will usually be a couple hundred dollars cheaper over the last two. With 100% acrylic and acrylic capped ABS, costing about the same.
The only manufacturing company I’m aware of advertising Acrylic capped ABS is BCI tub and wall liner and since, I believe in always using the best performing products for clients, is my choice and recommendation.

|Chemically stripping a bathtub that’s has been refinished before. Must be done so the liner is properly adhered to the original finish. |
It is highly recommended that you don’t short yourself on this or you'll waste you're money by having the liner separate from the tubs failed coating and start holding water.
|Or should you have a failed liner that needs removal and disposal prior to re-installation.||$150.00|
|in some cases you may have to have the liner removed and chemically striped the tub due to the tub having both done prior. It won’t be known until the liner is removed.
By using BCI tub liner propitiatory installation method, you won't need to install a surround unless it's needed as many tub liner companies require, trying to prevent water penetration under the liner from poor fit or installation methods.
Next issue for tub liner cost, is the way the company you’re considering sells their service. Companies with salespeople, who pay commission will often be around 10% or more in cost to compensate for the commission. You can usually tell the commissioned sales people by the hard sales tactics. I keep reading complaints about them. They won’t give you a presentation, without both parties of the house hold, home for the presentation.
It makes for a better relationship with the client and when the estimator can foresee any problems in the installation beforehand that a non-installer, commissioned sales person wouldn’t.
I personally don’t like hard sales tactics, and wouldn’t want to put you through it.
Next you need to consider the installation. After decades of removing failed liners, the problems I see are poor fit and improper installation.
Just recently we removed a liner to find plastic shopping bags stuffed under the liner rail section for support, pretty sketchy. I’m constantly shocked by what I see when we remove liners that have failed by getting water underneath them.
No butyl primer used, no adhesive silicone and no silicone dam created around the perimeter. On a proper installation, butyl tape is what is used to hold the tub in place while the adhesive sets up.
Butyl tape requires a hospital clean surface, then butyl primer must be used where the butyl tape is applied.
One of my biggest complaints about installers is the poor surface prep, like when a bathtub has been refinished before and then a liner is installed over the old failed refinishing. Usually the refinishing was done poorly and started to fail, the homeowner having lost faith in tub refinishing will call for a liner install. If the old tub refinishing is not chemically stripped off and the reglazing material continues to fail so will your liner installation.
You may want to be around during the install to see that it is done correctly?
Few liner installers will strip a refinished tub, because of the safety equipment that is required, which most, don’t have. Being a bathtub refinisher, myself as well a liner installer, all my technicians have the proper safety equipment. You can count on your bathtub being properly prepped when choosing us for your bathtub liner installation.
Additionally, commission Sales people will try and get as much as possible to up their commissions.
Since pricing is dependent, per cost of living index, in your area, your mileage may vary. Here is a Bathtub liner installation calculator that I found to be pretty accurate, just plug in your zip code, opens in new window.
Be mindful that it will not cover the extras mentioned or the chemically stripping that may be needed.
On a side note the number of molds a company has will determine the fit, some companies only have a couple of dozen molds and the fit is rather loose, they are often over-sized to accommodate many different tub styles. These can make your bathroom area considerably smaller.
Which is another reason we choose BCI as our supplier, having several hundred molds on hand. We take 14 measurements and photos, send them to BCI for identification, so they can pull the correct mold down from inventory, so you truly get a perfect fit with losing as little bathtub space as possible.
