Repairs to cracked fiberglass bathtub & shower pan bottoms are worthless unless the underlying cause is addressed. Namely installing the proper support under the fiberglass tub or shower pan.
Improper installation method is the main cause for this problem. The proper procedure is to set the tub or shower pan with side supports to attain the proper level during the initial installation.
Then pull the tub or unit back out and mix the appropriate amount of drywall mud (Easy-Sand 45) is a good choice and dump a mound of this on the tub or shower pans sub-flooring, then re-set the unit over the thick dry-wall mud and allow the unit to settle into the dry-wall mud by applying some pressure.
Cracked or holes in fiberglass tubs are easily repaired.
Once set, allows for a solid base, preventing the problem in the first place. Plastic sheeting could be added over the top of the mud to prevent the unit from being too permanent, but still provide support.
But what to do now that the deed is done? Well I’ve developed a high quality procedure that addresses these concerns, for cracked fiberglass tub repair & cracked shower pan bottoms.
First we will need to add support, assuming there is a sub-floor under the unit.
Then we inject a 2 component foam that spreads out under the tub or shower pan base. The chamfer provides a shoulder for the fiberglass gel to attach to.
This foam is rated as a low density to help prevent buckling of the bottom from the foams expansion. The foams sets in just a couple of minutes, creating an extremely sound foundation.

One component foam sold at Home Centers is not recommended, one it takes 8 hours to set and second; it can easily buckle the tub or shower pan bottom, creating a hump by being a higher weight density won’t stop expanding when you need it to.
Then we apply a fiberglass cloth patch and glass it in over the crack. This bridges the crack, preventing any further problems for you.

TubPotion #9 resembles the pebbly non-skid found on most shower pan bottoms and completely hides the repair and provides a safe surface while bathing or showering.

Acrylic Fiberglass Bathtub Hole Repair – Are Easily Taken Care Of, Providing Relief From Expensive Replacement.
Should the hole be in the fiberglass tub’s bottom, again this is due to the tub being unsupported underneath. Most often caused by placing a ladder in the tub, while painting above the fixture (next time put some padding down and plywood to spread out the weight). Or a heavy object was dropped.
We also see holes in the side or rail of a fiberglass or plastic tub. I can only assume the fixture got kicked when this happens. Here’s what should be done to fix this problem.

This allows us to fill in the depression and build out the repair thickness. Without creating a hump in the surface.

Patch completed ready for final sanding.
This tub was in good shape all in all and a blend repair was done.
